Dragon Quest IX Hoshizora no Mamoribito - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» A few Japanese distributors have started preorders for Dragon Quest IX but not to everyone. According to them, they're currently only offering the game to their high-volume customers since the release will apparently be in demand. NCS has been trading for a while now and we're generally jaded to such sales hype but then again this is Dragon Quest. Japanese fans are likely willing to camp out and wait on line for any DQ game by the hundreds of thousands so the hype might be warranted.

We know how many copies we'll be getting so we're opening up preorders today. NCS doesn't anticipate any shortages or supply issues but as they say in Brooklyn, "Ya Neva Know 'Til Ya Know." Preorders are welcome to ship on March 28, 2009 at JPY5980 or US$70.90 from NCS.

Fate/Stay Night Saber Gift Version - New Import, In Stock

«©NCSX» Japanese manufacturer Gift teams up with Good Smile Company to release a visually striking Saber figure which is dressed in a poofy dress and shining armor. The visual contrast is basically the impression of hard metal on top and gossamer below. Satoshi Toda sculpted the Saber Gift figure to 1/8 scale which measures 18cm tall or 7.08" in height.

Upon opening up the package, Saber is encased in a plastic prison which keeps her secure. An extra Saber head which sports larger "anime-style" eyes is packaged with the figure - the default Saber head is painted with "normal-style" eyes that are more realistic.
Saber's eyes are colored green and a sprig of blonde hair pokes out of the top of her head. The "sprig" hairstyle may also be seen on Naru Narusegawa of Love Hina fame and Kanu Unchou from Ikkitousen, among others. A mirrored base and Saber's sword are also included in the packaging. NCS' private Saber figure collection isn't as large as our Kanu Unchou collection but we think Saber will eventually catch up to Kanu in the number of figures released in Japan.

Dynasty Warriors 6 Mini Figure Vol.1 - New, In Stock

«©NCSX» The heroes of Dynasty Warriors are generally tall, lanky, and well proportioned specimens of the human species. That all changes with CafeReo's new Dynasty Warriors 6 Eiketsu Mini-Figures which feature twelve super-deformed generals and heroes from the popular game. Although the warriors from Koei's game have been shrunken, they still bear their distinct likenesses which make them easy to spot and discern from one another.

Each figure measures a mere 5cm or 1.96" in height and sports a larger than normal noggin. A circular disc is included with each figure for display purposes. Many of the Sangoku Musou munchkins wield weapons per their normal operating procedures on the battlefield. For example, Cao Cao carries a sword with a golden handle which matches the purple, black, and gold regalia that he's decked out in. Cao Cao also wears a golden crown as befits the progenitor of the Wei Empire. The bald-headed Dian Wei carries a ball and chain while Zhang Liao hefts two weapons in each hand for double the damage. All preorders will ship today and new orders are welcome at JPY6000 or US$79.90 per box of 12 figures.

SFZ3 Double Upper & Vampire Chronicle Value Pack

«©NCSX» Capcom owns a valuable software library that can be counted on for future revenue whenever the need or desire arises. The software library can be channeled into different platforms, online downloads, or in the case of the Street Fighter Zero3 Double Upper Vampire Chronicle The Chaos Tower Value Pack (Best Version), outright re-releases.

Since the software has already been produced and bug-tested years ago, the company incurs little cost to bring the software to market again. Other than the printing and packaging, Capcom might take out an ad in Famitsu or Dengeki to alert readers of the impending re-release. After knocking out those expenses, the revenue from sales of a re-release is pretty much pure profit. It's good work if you can get it.

The new PSP Value Pack bundles together the Japanese PSP versions of Street Fighter Zero 3 Double Upper and Vampire Chronicle on two separate UMDs. That's not all however. Both UMDs are packaged in their respective retail releases - in the case of SFZ3 Double Upper, the game is the Capkore reissue and Vampire Chronicle is the Best version of the game which were released in 2007 and 2008 respectively. The two games are then inserted in a cardboard slipcase as seen to the left.

All preorders have shipped as of yesterday and new orders are welcome to ship today. Pricing is set at JPY3139 or US$39.90 from NCS.

Final Fantasy CC: Echoes of Time - New Import

«©NCSX» The latest Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game is a cross-platform title which is equally the same on the Nintendo DS and the Wii. Square accomplishes the handheld-to-console parity with the Pollux Engine which makes it easy to release the same game simultaneously on two platforms. That means the underlying code, the graphics, the music, and the gameplay are identical. By using the Wi-Fi communications mode, NDS players can adventure together with Wii players like one big happy family.

At the outset of the game, players choose a character class from four races - Clavats, Yukes, Lilties, and Selkies - and the sex of the protagonist. The adventure starts in a quaint little town filled with folksy citizens but soon expands into the dangerous environs of the world outside.

PSP Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology 2 - New Import

«©NCSX» Heroes from assorted Tales games join together for an adventure royale which features an assemblage of 51 characters including:

» Anise Tatlin (Tales of the Abyss),
»
Guy Cecil (Tales of the Abyss)
» Farah Oersted (Tales of Eternia),
»
Cless Alvein (
Tales of Phantasia)
» Huzibayashi Suzu (Tales of Phantasia)
» Caius Qualls (Tales of the Tempest)
» Ilia Animi (Tales of Innocence)
» Zelos Wilder (Tales of Symphonia)
» Veigue Lungberg (Tales of Rebirth)
» Presea Combatir (Tales of Symphonia)
» Ilia Animi (Tales of Innocence)
» Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia)

At the outset of the game, the protagonist hurtles from the sky onto the deck of a ship and is eventually "indoctrinated" into the cast of characters. Kanonno Earhart from the first Radiant Mythology joins the player's party immediately at the outset. She's a pink-haired girl with green eyes who has helpful healing magic. Once the introductory sequence is over, the protagonist, Kanonno, and a crew of Tales characters travel around the world in a massive vehicle that bears a distinct likeness to a race car. Early preorders will ship with a bonus "Special DVD" in 50% ratio.

Final Fantasy CC: Echoes of Time - New Import

«©NCSX» The latest Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game is a cross-platform title which is equally the same on the Nintendo DS and the Wii. Square accomplishes the handheld-to-console parity with the "Pollux Engine" which makes it easy to develop and release the same game simultaneously on two platforms. That means the underlying code, the graphics, the music, and the gameplay are identical. By using the Wi-Fi communications mode, NDS players can link up with Wii players and go on adventures like one big happy family.

One drawback to the cross-platform functionality however is the cramped "dual screen" design that the Wii version uses - the main game screen is positioned on the left while a stats screen is positioned on the right to mimic the NDS but it's claustrophobic and looks clumsy especially when a Wii is connected to a 50' HDTV. In other words, you'll never get to view the game on a full screen but you can magnify the size of either of the screens by pressing the "-" or "+" button on the Wii Remote. Despite the cross-platform graphics, the game looks good on the Wii with bright colors, a detailed game world and well defined characters. It's better than we initially expected after hearing about the Pollux Engine a few months ago.

Soul Eater: Battle Resonance - New Import, In Stock

«©NCSX» The cast of Soul Eater make like the crew from Bleach and battle it out in a fast-paced 2.5D fighting game that features 13 pairs of combatants who bout on 12 stages inspired by the animated serial. Although the fighters stand on a 2D plane, the backgrounds are rendered in 3D and the screen occasionally pivots to and fro when special attacks or events are triggered. The default Story Mode features an original drama for each fighter as he/she battles through the ranks.

The Mission Mode (50+ missions) gives players certain objectives and goals that must be completed before moving onto the next mission. In addition to the regular cast of fighters, players may also create a custom character from prefabricated cel-shaded parts. To add authenticity to the game, Namco hired the voice actors from the television series to recreate utterances, grunts, and other spoken sound effects. The PS2 edition of the game includes a "Soul Theater" option which features animated sequences culled from the original televised series.

Early preorders for both versions will include a bonus Soul Resonance CD that was allocated by Namco Bandai in 50% ratio.

Dance Dance Revolution X - New Import, Restock Soon

«©NCSX» Konami released the North American version of Dance Dance Revolution X a couple of months ago but the Japanese get to enjoy the game as well this week. New to the series is the multi-player LAN Battle Mode (Party Mode) where four Playstation 2 consoles may be linked up via network cable so that eight players can dance simultaneously. The "Street Master Mode" features the background stories of 14 characters who compete against challengers in order to move their stories along. Konami also introduces "Shock Arrows" in DDRX which are directional cues that must be avoided.

The Japanese version of DDRX contains over 60 songs including Bemani classics such as "Butterfly" from SMILE.dk and "Dub I Dub" by Me & My. Flipping through the track list this morning, we see that SMILE.dk is represented thrice - in addition to "Butterfly [2008 X-edit]," Konami has also included "Boys [2008 X-edit]" and "Koko Soko [2008 X-edit]." The Pet Shop Boys' "Always on My Mind" makes the cut and if you play the song in the standard Game Mode, you can watch about 1/2 of the original video that aired on MTV over a decade ago.
Other notable tracks: Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry" as covered by Purefocus and "Trickster" by Nana Mizuki.

PSP Soul Eater: Battle Resonance

«©NCSX» The cast of Soul Eater make like the crew from Bleach and battle it out in a fast-paced 2.5D fighting game that features 13 pairs of combatants who bout on 12 stages inspired by the animated serial. In the Soul Eater universe, students known as meisters train themselves to wield weapons which are capable of sucking in the souls of wayward humans. Soul Eater Battle Resonance follows the story of the meisters and their powerful weapons as they go to war against each other.

The PSP edition of the game features a wireless versus function where two players can link up via Ad Hoc mode and engage in a Soul Eater match.

Early preorders for both versions will include a bonus Soul Resonance CD that was allocated by Namco Bandai in 50% ratio.

Super Robot Wars K - Import Preorder, Ships on April 2

«©NCSX» Characters and robots from 14 animation franchises gather together for a new Super Robot Wars extravaganza where battles are fought upon tactical arenas on terra, high up in the atmosphere, and in the outer reaches of space. The animated series featured in the game include Gundam Seed Destiny, Gun X Sword, Soukyuu no Fafner, Haja Taisei Dangaioh, Mazinger Z, Virtual On Marz, Overman King Gainer, Steel God Jeeg, and Shinkon Gattai Godannar.

Early preorders will ship with a bonus
Official Commentary Book which will be given away by Banpresto in 50% ratio. This means that if we preorder a total of 500 copies of the game, NCS will only receive 250 bonus books which we'll give away to the first 250 reservations.

IdolMaster Twins - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» IdolMaster is a little cottage industry that's been cashing in on the J-Pop idol phenomenon in Japan. The two IdolMaster games released for the Xbox 360 thus far have proven that there's an audience for J-Pop simulators and Namco's going back to the trough once more. IdolMaster Twins isn't a new game however. It's a bundling of the original IdolMaster and its sequel Idolmaster Live: For You which are packaged in a special slipcase/sleeve featuring new artwork of the cast of characters.

NCS is curious if anyone who's already purchased both IdolMaster games is going to spend another ~$50 for what is essentially a new game sleeve. Collectors will probably spring for the Twins bundle but it's a pretty good assumption that everyone else is going to skip the purchase. Preorders are welcome to ship on March 12, 2009.

One Piece Unlimited Cruise Episode 2 - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» In the first episode of One Piece Unlimited Cruise, Luffy and the crew of the Jolly Roger found themselves in an adventure which spanned a series of islands. Players started the game off with Luffy but eventually got to control all of the members of the Straw Hats Pirates crew in sequential bite-sized episodes.

The sequel to the first Unlimited Cruise game features more of the same but new islands such as Desert Island and Marsh Island may be visited and conquered. New characters and adversaries also join the cast to provide drama and adversity such as
Eustace "Captain" Kidd who leads the Kidd Pirates on the high seas.

According to the preorder details, the battle system has been improved but we recall that the fighting action in the first game was polished and fluid. Character skills will also level up when they're used in the adventure. We'll post impressions and more details once we get to check the game out next month. Preorders are welcome to ship on February 26, 2009 at JPY5800 or US$63.90.

Space Invaders Exteme 2 - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» Taito's classic Space Invaders game gets extreme once again with new features that bring the retro franchise up to speed with the Joneses. Game elements in Space Invaders Extreme 2 include:

» Bingo System: Taito throws in the classic game of Bingo where a grid is lit up during the course of a stage as invaders are shot. To win at Bingo, key spots on the grid must light up horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
» Multiplayer WiFi Mode: Compete against another player via wireless Wi-Fi connection with new strategic considerations.

Preorders are welcome to ship on March 26, 2009 at JPY3800 or US$43.90 from NCS. Similar to the original SIE, the upcoming sequel will support the Nintendo DS Paddle Controller.

Soul Men - New Release, Ships in 24 Hours

From the Manufacturer
Malcolm Lee, director of upbeat family fare such as WELCOME HOME ROSCOE JENKINS and ROLL BOUNCE, takes a slightly raunchier tack for his uproarious buddy comedy, SOUL MEN. The late Bernie Mac gives one of his final performances as Floyd Henderson, a retired back-up singer for a ?60s soul act known as the Real Deal.

When the group's lead singer, Marcus Hooks--played by real-life soul singer John Legend--suddenly drops dead, the two remaining members of the group, Henderson and Louis Hinds (Samuel L. Jackson), are enlisted to play a tribute concert at the Apollo Theatre in New York City. Hinds, an ex-convict trying his best to stay out of the limelight, is persuaded by Henderson to drive cross-country for the chance to re-ignite his music career. The classic comedic trope of road-trip antagonism reaches new heights as the pair curse and claw at each other for the entire voyage, taking occasional breaks to stage impromptu roadside rehearsals and other, less PG-rated misadventures. Throughout, Mac's formidable skills at slapstick play against Jackson's no-nonsense, tough guy demeanor--a veneer that, at times, cracks enough to reveal some genuinely tender moments between the two.

Hori Real Arcade Pro EX SE - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» Hori opened up preorders yesterday for the www.horistore.com exclusive RAP.EX SE which uses genuine Seimetsu buttons and a lollipop-style joystick. That means you won't have to mod a standard Hori RAP EX stick with coin-op quality parts to get that special tactile arcade feel. Besides, modding a joystick can potentially lead to fatigue, wayward solder, a broken joystick, and consequently a broken heart. Why risk it?

The upcoming
Hori Real Arcade Pro EX SE is based on the same form-factor as earlier RAPs and sports a 3m (9.83') cord. Preorders are welcome to ship on or around Feb 5, 2009. Due to the heavy weight of the joystick, NCS recommends only shipping by UPS Ground within the United States. Pricing reflects yen conversion, our vendor's deputy surcharge, and overnight shipping from Japan to the USA.

Modern Pets Friend: Mickey Mouse - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» When we were young, we wanted to be old. Being adults affords us entry into select arenas. Now that we're older however, we want to be young again. Funny how that works.

Organic's upcoming Modern Pets Friend: Mickey and Minnie figures are decidedly youthful. Mickey and Minnie are mere babes and they look the part with cherubic faces and short statures. When you're a cartoon character, you can shift from youth to adult rather easily. Preorders are welcome to ship in mid-late March 2009 at JPY1344 or US$20.90 per figure.

Animal Crossing Stainless Steel Tumbler - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» When NCS receives product solicitations for Animal Crossing products, we generally give them the benefit of the doubt instead of quickly turning our attention elsewhere. AXing products have a good track record and are consistent sellers - important attributes in a wary and rather weary marketplace. The latest AXing product offer from Banpresto is a pair of stainless steel tumblers which feature stylish silhouette artwork instead of in-your-face depictions of Animal Crossing beasts like Tom Nook (Tanukichi) and Crazy Redd (Tsunekichi). The tumblers measure 14cm tall and are made of rigid plastic with a metal rim which apparently adds value. Preorders are welcome to ship in mid-late May 2009.

Transformers MP-7 Thundercracker - New Import

«©NCSX» Takara releases the seventh Transformers Masterpiece figure which is packaged in the large standard MP package. If we recall correctly, Thundercracker is a blue G1 Decepticon (Destron in Japan) that looks like Megatron except that he's colored a regal blue hue.

Thundercracker can transform into a sleek jetfighter with a hatch that opens up and a nose cone which swivels to the side when pushed. Two weapon accessories, a miniature toy pilot, and a display stand are also included in the package.

All preorders have shipped as of last week and new orders are welcome today. Pricing is set at JPY10000 or US$108.90 from NCS.

Domokun Diecut Cushion - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» Domokun's a pop culture phenomenon who's still going strong after fairly decent saturation in the Japanese and most recently, the American toy market. We're thinking 2009 will be another good year for Domokun since everyone needs a toothy monster in their lives.

Eikoh's die-cut Domokun cushion measures a fairly large 17.71" in height and roughly 12" in length. Two varieties on offer: A Domokun cushion which raises its right paw and is bright eyed and a variant Domokun cushion which seems to be sleepy with half-closed eyelids. Preorders are welcome to ship in mid-late May 2009 at US$30.90 per cushion.

Fate/Unlimited Codes Saber Lily D.A. - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» The recent Fate/Unlimited Codes fighting game for the PS2 was a solid seller and NCS shifted a good number of the SP-BOX Edition which included a bonus Saber Lily Figma from Max Factory. For an encore, Good Smile Company has announced a 1/7 scale Saber Lily Distant Avalon figure which measures 23cm or 9.05" in height. The sculpture by Takayuki Kawahara depicts the blonde knight in the midst of igniting her "Distant Avalon" attack which fills the Fate/Unlimited Codes game screen with slashing laser-like light.

Saber is decked out in a suit of armor that's a combination of metal plating and poofy white dress. A scabbard is tethered to Saber's left side while her right hand grips the mighty sword Excalibur. Preorders are welcome to ship in mid-late June 2009 at JPY9800 or US$109.90 from NCS.

General Updates

Lunar New Year
Last year was the Lunar Year of the Rat. The rodent signage was perhaps fitting for 2008 considering what has happened globally in the past year. Today marks the beginning of the Lunar Year of the Ox. The bull might make a sustained run in select markets but we're watching and waiting rather than actively trading. Some soothsayers are anticipating a recovery in the latter half of 2009.
DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label Extra
The new finalized date for the Xbox 360 home conversion of
DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label Extra is February 19, 2009. All preorders are still on file and we'll ship reservations once the game is released. New orders are welcome.
Dux for Dreamcast
There's no confirmed release date yet but maybe we'll have more information next month. Our payment for the game was made last year but we're thinking only positive thoughts and patiently waiting for release.
