Toshi Densetsu: Uma Takkyubin - Preorder

The supernatural, preternatural, and monstrous are featured in Epoch's upcoming Toshi Densetsu Uma Takkyubin toy set which includes alien creatures and in one case, the head of a bovine that's the end result of a cattle mutilation. Aliens and/or monsters featured in the set include:

» Gray - A humanoid creature that's colored... gray.
» Sea Monster Carcass - Trawled up by a Japanese fishing boat in 1977

Korokoro Electric Yo-yo - Preorder

A yo-yo is a toy that's strung with a length of string. Tether one end of the string to your finger and the yo-yo becomes a part of your being. It obeys your hand movements and dutifully coils upwards when jerked like an ever-rolling puppet.

An electric yo-yo is just like a regular yo-yo but with special properties such as flashing lights and whirring sounds that are discordant enough to frighten woodland rodents. It's been years since NCS has toyed with yo-yos but we'll apparently get a chance this summer. System Service has started preorders for a collection of eight electric yo-yos of different sizes. Four of the yo-yos measure 5.70cm or 2.24" in diameter while the other four measure 4.60cm or 1.81" in diameter. Jinbezame Rubber Strap - Preorder

The creatures that swim in the sea are diverse and plentiful. From microscopic rotifers to massive whale sharks, the ecosystem of the ocean holds wonders of biology and evolution. For example, the Anglerfish is a deep sea monster which lures prey with a luminous appendage which protrudes from its head. By wagging the appendage like a lure, hapless prey are attracted towards the Anglerfish's gaping maw and consequently consumed.

To show love to the voracious Anglerfish and other creatures of the deep, Epoch has started preorders for the Jinbezame Rubber Strap set. The word "Jinbezame" means whale shark but it's used to encompass the creatures in the set which include a manta ray, a yellow puffer, blackfin tuna, and more. Baseball Game 50th Anniversary - Preorder

Way before the age of video games made virtual baseball an immersive experience, baseball fans had to make do with mechanically-operated baseball board games. By using levers and flippers, the sport of baseball was simulated for fun seekers both young and old. The olden games weren't very good but that's what our parents and elder siblings had to deal with back in the day.

Epoch celebrates the days of mechanically operated baseball games and sports games in general with an upcoming collection of miniature table game gashapon. Two baseball games are featured in the set but there's also a bowling game, a soccer game, a hockey game, and even a tennis game. Felicia of Vampire game fame is a blue-maned bundle of joy who bounds around with youthful energy. She's the shining light in the Vampire series as evidenced by her white garb (what there is of it) and sky blue hair. NCS thinks of Felicia as the diametric foil to the dark and foreboding Demitri.

Organic's Felicia sculpture exhibits the perky qualities of our favorite cat-girl fighter where she sits slouched on the ground and raises a paw. NCS interprets her gesture as a friendly one but opponents may view it as a threat since Felicia's claws are sharp and would rend flesh to ribbons. Felicia is also winking at admirers and we can't help but notice that her eyebrows are colored blue which proves she's naturally azure. The figure is sculpted to 1/6 scale and measures 150mm in height.

The Wham-O Super Ball has been around since 1965 and we recall the olden days when kids used to throw one or more around in the schoolyard and smack the other kids in the face with them. Those types of shenanigans probably still go on today so Bandai has announced a set of Super Balls with Super Mario Galaxy figurines inside.

Each Super Mario Galaxy Super Ball measures 45mm or 1.77" in diameter so they're roughly regulation issue size. The Super Balls that are sold in the USA are approximately 1.66" in diameter. Spelunker: Dangerous Hero Sofubi Toy - New, In Stock

Our first encounter with the game "Spelunker" was on the Atari 8-bit computers from way back when. In 1985, Spelunker was ported over to the Famicom and that single moment was enough to green-light a toy figure based on the hero of the game... over two decades later.

Japanese manufacturer Pleasant Angels has started a toy series dubbed Old Game Heroes and the debut figure is the miner/adventurer from Spelunker. The soft vinyl figure measures 16cm or 6.29" tall and is armed with a Phantom Blaster which is used to vaporize discarnates that lurk in the caverns below. TOYS Star Wars Deformed Figures Vol. 1 - New, In Stock

When preorders were opened up for the Star Wars Deformed figures last year, the toy industry was celebrating the 30th Anniversary of George Lucas' masterwork. One year later but still desirable, the toys are now in stock and shipping. Darth Vader is normally an imposing figure with a wide stance and swishy cape. In Tomy's Star Wars Deformed Figure set, Darth is more munchkin than menace. Yoda looks properly proportioned as does R2-D2 but the other three figures have been squashed and deformed into squat versions of themselves. From the upper left of the photo below and rotating clockwise, the figures are:

Metal Gear Solid 4 Dog Tag Strap - Preorder

When MGS4 ships this summer, it's going to be a global event where the culmination of Kojima's work is laid bare for the world to witness. Sales for the game are expected to be monumental but tie-in merchandising has for the most part been kept to a threadbare minimum.

System Service bucked the trend over the weekend by starting preorders for a set of Metal Gear Solid 4 Dog Tag Straps which feature the following personalities: Old Snake, Raiden, Meryl, Johnny, Vamp, and Liquid Ocelot. Each dog tag measures 50mm or 1.96" in length and is made of metal. A strap is tethered to the top of each dog tag for attachment to your cell phone or perhaps your ring finger. The dog tags will be packaged in plastic capsules and sold randomly in Japan. To make it easy as pie for collectors to get all six dog tags, NCS will sort out the capsules into complete sets of six and sell them in mid-late July 2008. Preorders are welcome today.

Golden Week Holiday

Players marshal mechs on grid-laced battlefields where single unit encounters are possible along with skirmishes between entire squadrons of up to 100 mechs. The action takes place on the touch screen while the top screen shows team stats and other indicators. When a battle begins, the Power Balance of the two sides is shown which determines which contingent is stronger.

The cast of Hitman Reborn find themselves in an RPG which features card-battling action where two sides fight it out in a conventional side-viewed encounters. Think of it as a gritty urban take on the RPG fighting style engendered by the Final Fantasy games. When an encounter starts up, the takes place on the top screen while the touch screen features an assemblage of attack cards that are tapped to swing a bat or throw an armful of crackling dynamite. Two new characters are introduced in the game - Albito and Rizona, two sandy-haired blondes from the Evocadore Familia. The first production of the game includes a set of five bonus trading cards featuring Hitman characters in 1:1 ratio.
