«©NCSX» Jojo's Bizarre Adventure first appeared on Weekly Shonen Jump in 1987 and has enjoyed a healthy run and seven major story arcs since its debut. Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken: Phantom Blood hearkens back to the beginning of the series which introduced Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando to the world.

   The year is 1868 in England and the cries of a baby are heard by a vandal named Dario Brando. He follows the crying to an overturned stagecoach and intends to rob the occupants whom he presumes are dead. He finds a male that is still alive named George Joestar who offers Dario a reward for helping them. Fast forward to 1880 and Dario Brando is dying at bed and tells his son Dio to go to the Joestars to cash in Dario's reward. George Joestar welcomes Dio to the family but son Jonathan is less welcoming when he discovers Dio's true nature.

   The game features 27 chapters which tell the complete tale of the Phantom Blood story arc which begins with Jojo defending his girlfriend's honor from two bruisers and goes through all of the major encounters and battles in the game including Jonathan's first battle against Dio. Between the battles, the storyline is laid out in mostly static cut scenes which are brimming with voice acting and sound effects.

   The limited version of Ichigo Mashimaro includes a Petit Party X Ichigo Mashimaro Collaboration toy figure of Miu Matsuoka with two sets of clothing - a casual outfit and a yukata. The clothing was made by Azone International and the PVC figure itself was manufactured by Yamoto.

«©NCSX» Itoh and Chika Nobue are sisters, with Itoh playing the part of jaded teenager who is seemingly disaffected beyond her years. Chika is younger but more sensible than her older sibling. Three additional young friends complete their unholy circle and the quintet involve themselves in mundane situations made interesting by their reactions to normal situations and occurrences. An innocuous door-to-door cosmetics salesman is accused of being a molester, an underage Itoh smokes and drinks, and other contrasts which challenge the rhyme of "sugar and spice, and everything nice."

   In the PS2 game, the protagonist returns to Hamamatsu and spends four weeks of the summer with Itoh and gang in interactive scenarios. The world map in Ichigo is viewed from overhead and a few buildings of interest are highlighted. Five little faces appear on the buildings where the different girls are hanging out. To visit someone, click on a building and be greeted by a girl that is morose, puzzled, peeved, happy, or bored. It all depends on the situation and how one handles it will affect how the girl feels towards the protagonist. Various sound effects also convey the surroundings. When the gals are at the beach, the sound of water and waves will reverberate in the background. Various mini-games such as "Space Shot" may also be enjoyed.

   To reinforce the atmosphere of the Ichigo Mashimaro animation, the voice actresses from the series supply their impressive vocal talents to the girls as follows:

   During the course of interaction, the girls will develop feelings for the protagonist which is denoted by hearts. Each girl's portrait is shown inside a circle and five hearts are above each one. If you have pleasant interactions, the hearts will slowly fill up.

«©NCSX» Join the ranks of the Japan Special Forces and tackle the role of an officer who shuffles to various assignments where street criminals and terrorists are wreaking havoc. When trouble threatens to wreck the peace, the jacketed officer rushes to the airport, the local bank, a convenience store, or another venue where public safety is at risk. The goal is to stop the perpetrators cold with gunfire and shuttle hostages away from harm's way. At the end of each level, the player is ranked on the efficacy of his work, the stealth factor, and the save ratio of the hostages. To avoid being seen by thugs, players may crouch and hide behind obstacles but NCS found that the AI of the criminals isn't necessarily something to fear. They're collectively dumber than a box of hammers...

   Missions are viewed from a first person perspective where the environment shifts into view with every turn of the corner and each swivel of the officer's vantage point. The camera control is dodgy however with an auto-centering feature which makes for clumsy controls. The game features over 40 types of real world rifles and guns that may be used in the game for a superfluous bit of realism. We use the word "superfluous" because the guns all shoot the same way. Players may enjoy 37 missions which take place in locales across Japan.

«©NCSX» Warring States are ruining the simple life for peasants and court eaters alike when massive armies raze the countryside with their war mongering. As skirmishes erupt in local areas and allies are drawn into the fray, the battles only get bigger as more and more contingents of troops join the war. At the outset of the game, players guide a single general into battle who commands a powerful cavalry against a larger force but new alliances may be formed directly on the battlefield. While some alliances are mutually beneficial, others are more of a consequence of circumstance to contain opposing forces.

   As the balance of power shifts from battle to battle, new situations and missions pop up that require handling. As mentioned earlier, the game starts with a single general but as allies are met and/or conquered, control over the new generals and leaders is also granted to the gamer for direct guidance of pools of soldiers, archers, cavalry, and even an occasional temporary force of carpenters. From a small force of soldiers on a local battlefield, the game eventually features massive marshaling of armies against other massive armies for chaotic battles on massive battlefields. The end goal is the domination of all other forces and houses to unite the entirety of Japan under a single crest.

«©NCSX» Handling a Densha de Go! class passenger train ain't easy but amateurs may find piloting a single train unit much easier. Tetsu-One grants control of a locomotive engine car to the player and challenges him to a race.

   Upon starting the competition, trains rumble out and steadily gain speed. Once peak velocity is attained, the landscape hurtles past with exhilarating realism and motion. At this juncture, you'll have to guide your train by banking and matching the curve of the track. Take a swerve too fast without compensating for the bend and you'll topple over. Expert players may be able to balance the car on one side without toppling but running off of the track seems to be a common occurrence. Thankfully, it's a simple task to groove back onto the rails and continue on your way. Competing trains race ahead and alongside you on parallel tracks which makes for thrilling bumps and chases.

   In the two-player mode, warning arrows run down the side of your viewing screen and flash when trains are nearby. NCS didn't expect much out of Tetsu when we first viewed vendor demos but the game plays very well and the racing execution runs surprisingly sweet.
