   Pikachu paws coins into the confines of his domain in the latest version of the Itazura Bank which has seen cat and dog renditions before. Upon placing a coin on the yellow holder on the top of the bank, whirring sounds may be heard which are then followed by the appearance of the irascible Pikachu who uses a paw to lap the coin into the bank. Pikachu will also make a sound while accepting your donation to his retirement fund.

   The bank accepts 500 yen coins which have a diameter of 26.5mm and are approximately the size of a quarter at 24.26mm. The coin bank holds approximately 40 coins and runs on two AA batteries (not included).

«©NCSX» Last year around this time, Japanese manufacturer Shine released the Itazura Coin Bank - Mikeniko Kitty Version which featured a coin-grabbing kitty. This year, it's time for a cuddly panda bear to help citizens sink their savings into a safe place. At first glance, the Coin Bank looks like a recreation of a box of biscuits. However, plop a coin on the oval-shaped plate atop the box and the lid creaks open. Next, a panda shoves its paw outwards and slides the coin into the box like a boss. Once the panda's mission is accomplished, the lid of the box slams shut until another coin is laid on top of the plate.

   The coin bank runs on two "AA" batteries (not included) which are fitted into the hatch on the underside. The bank accepts coins that are 2.70cm in diameter and under. For us Yanks, this capacity accommodates quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. For Japanese folks, the coin bank can accept JPY500, JPY100, JPY50, JPY10, and JPY5 coins. We know this because dollops of Alpo Chop House™ that are dropped in a food bowl are eaten within a few blinks of the eye. Do they even chew the food? It seems like the chunky meat morsels pass from a dog's mouth to its gullet in six second flat.

The Choken-Bako Coin Bank features a hungry dog. Real hungry. The pooch doesn't look voracious when its standing at attention but drop a coin or three into its food bowl and it'll get to work. The beast will move its body to and fro as its hungry maw swishes around the bowl like life, liberty, and limb depending on it. Happinet has announced two new versions of the Choken-Bako Coin Bank which are shipping next week. The first variant is a spotted black and white pooch with beady eyes and the second version is a black and tan duotone specimen. Each dog stands over a rectangular vessel which is designed to store coins. Most coin banks just have a slot in which to insert savings but Choken-Bako utilizes a food dish. When coins are placed in the dish, a sensor mechanism is activated which causes the dog to "eat" in its feverish manner. The dog never touches any of the coins however. A slot that's cut into the bottom of the dish ensures that any coins drop into the storage unit as the dog moves and the dish swivels to and fro. When the coin bank is full, a hatch may be opened to release the savings.

Full Metal Alchemist Coin Bank - Import Preorder

«©NCSX» The new Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood television series made its debut in Japan last month and NCS anticipates another spate of product merchandising and video game adaptations later this year. Bandai's the first to announce a new product in the form of two Full Metal Alchemist Coin Banks which feature Edward Elric and Roy Mustang respectively.

Edward's Coin Bank is colored red to match his cloak and a little LCD screen on the front displays little spot animations that feature the brothers Elric in short gimmicky sequences that are accompanied by sound. Roy's Coin Bank is painted blue and also sports an LCD screen on the front which plays little animations of Roy Mustang whenever a JPY100 coin is inserted. For stateside savers, please note that a standard nickel can be used in place of the JPY100 coin since the dimensions are very similar. Space Invaders Game Bank - New Import, In Stock

«©NCSX» Back in 2003, Taito celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Space Invaders by releasing a replica of the Space Invaders tabletop game which was really a controller container which held a Dual Shock 2. It was highly collectible and NCS eventually sold out after keeping original inventory for 6 years. Taito shipped a boatload of Space Invaders products last year to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the franchise. This year, the 31st Anniversary of Space Invaders doesn't have the same cachet but that's not stopping Taito from keeping the Invaders merchandising train rolling.

Most piggy banks don't reward savers with entertainment. The Space Invaders Game Bank rewards coin-droppers with a thrilling (sorta) shoot 'em up. Players who insert a 100-yen coin in the coin slot will get to play a round of Space Invaders that's fairly faithful to the original from the sounds to the shields to the included color cellophane overlay. The game bank measures W200 x H105 x D95mm (7.87 x 4.13 x 3.74") in area and is listed as 1/6 scale on Takara's product sheet.

A 100-yen coin measures 2.26cm in diameter so the closest approximation that we have here in the USA is a nickel which spans 2.12cm. The nickel is slightly thicker at 1.95mm versus 1.75mm for the 100-yen coin but it's perfectly sized for the coin slot. Note that a quarter is too large but dimes and pennies may also be inserted into the slot for your personal savings.
