Yattaman DS 2 - New Import, In Stock

«©NCSX» Yattaman has been part of cartoon culture since the 70's and the characters are still recognized by a sizable portion of the Japanese population. Earlier this year, Takara Tomy released Yattaman DS which was a side scrolling platform game featuring the heroes of Yattaman doing their thing. The wrinkle was in the gadgets and weapons from the popular animated series which were usable to overcome hairy situations.

The sequel to Yattaman looks a lot like the first game. Seven new stages are featured including a sprint across the African Savannah, the desert, ancient ruins, and even an underwater trek for a total of 54 areas to explore. Similar to the first Yattaman game, a bonus side game features mech-fighting action where a Yatta animal robot is piloted against one of six robotic adversaries.

Yattaman Bikkuri Dokkiri Machine de Mao Race - Preorder

A spate of Yattaman merchandise and a few games were released this year to celebrate the franchise's 30th Anniversary. Yattaman DS2 Bikkuri Dokiranimaru Daibouken - Preorder

Yattaman has been part of cartoon culture since the 70's and the characters are still recognized by a sizable portion of the Japanese population. Earlier this year, Takara Tomy released Yattaman DS which was a side scrolling platform game featuring the heroes of Yattaman doing their thing. The wrinkle was in the gadgets and weapons from the popular animated series which were usable to overcome hairy situations.

When October rolls around, Takara will ship Yattaman DS2 to market which looks a lot like the first game. The entire cast of characters appear including Gan Takada, Ai Kaminari, Omocchama, Doronjo, Boyakki, and Tonzura. The original voice actors from the animated series were also tapped to reprise their roles in the game.

Yattaman Doronjo Collection Figure - Import Preorder

The yellow-haired maiden named Doronjo is the active leader of the Dorombo Gang. She works under the auspices of the mysterious Dokurobe who gives her orders from behind the scenes. There's only two other members in the gang - Boyakki, who's a lanky and goofy henchman with a wispy mustache and Tonzura, a brutish ogre of a man who follows Doronjo's lead.

We've received roughly a hundred Yattaman product offerings thus far this year but we've dodged most of them. Japanese manufacturer System Service however recently presented a compelling Yattaman product which features Doronjo in two different sculptures that we allowed through our filter. Each fixed-posed figure measures 17cm or 6.69" in length and preorders are welcome to ship in late November 2008 at US$20.90 each.

Yattaman Dorombo Narikiri Mask - Preorder

If the parade of Yattaman merchandise continues to march into the market, we might have to declare 2008 as "The Year of Yattaman." Not bad for a property that was pretty much languishing in limbo for nearly two decades until a new animated television series starting airing in January 2008. A live-action Yattaman movie is on tap for 2009 so the adage "When it rains, it pours" is apt here.

Japanese manufacturer System Service joins the queue of opportunists hoping to capitalize on Yattaman by announcing three masks/caps based on the Dorombo villains of the franchise as follows:

» A Boyakki / Lanky and goofy henchman with a wispy mustache
» B Tonzura / A brutish ogre of a man who follows Doronjo's lead
» C Doronjo / Lithe and limber leader of the Dorombo gang

The mask/caps are labeled "free size" so they'll fit over most human noggins whether you're a teenager or a senior. If you're a tyke, we'd advise holding off on a purchase until you're older. Preorders are welcome to ship in mid-late June 2008 at US$30 per mask.

Yattaman Furifuri Mascot Keychain - Preorder Import

The Yattaman animated series originally aired in Japan between 1977-1979 and the show garnered a legion of loyal fans. In the ensuing decades, Yattaman merchandise has trickled out from time to time but the once powerful draw of the franchise has faded into relative obscurity.

That all changes in 2008 with a new Yattaman series that started airing on Fuji TV in January. The reception has been positive and an NDS Yattaman game was recently announced along with the first sightingw of toys and merchandise based on the series. Today, NCS brings you the Yattaman FuriFuri Mascot Keychains which feature Gan-chan, Ai-chan, and a motley assortment of co-stars. A total of eight keychains are being sold and we'll gather them up and sell the keychains in complete sets at US$22.00. Preorders are welcome to ship in mid-late June 2008.
