Classic Norse mythology (or a bastardization thereof) re-entered popular culture in 1999 with the Japanese release of Valkyrie Profile on the Playstation. The game sold well and we figured that was that. Countless games come and go and die, never to be seen again. Fast forward nearly a decade later and Valkyrie Profile is still steeped in today’s gaming culture with games and toys. Kotobukiya adds another toy to the Valkyrie Profile ranks which was originally slated for October 2007.

When built and assembled together, the Lenneth sculpture measures 43cm or 16.92″ in height and nearly half that in width. Pricing is set at JPY55000 or US$425 from NCS. Pricing takes into account the air express carriage cost to import an item of this dimension into the USA from Japan. Preorders are welcome but NCS recommends only shipping this item within the USA with UPS Ground to avoid incurring onerous shipping charges.

«©NCSX» Previous releases in the Valkyrie Profile series have placed gamers in the shoes of a Valkyrie. In Tri-Ace's NDS Valkyrie rendition, players take control of a warrior named Wylfred who's harboring a a reservoir of hate against the Valkyrie named Lenneth. Many years ago, Wylfred's father Thyodor was killed on the battlefield and his soul was taken by Lenneth so he could become an Einherjar. Wylfred's goal is to attain Einherjar status himself so he can settle things with Lenneth.

Valkyrie Profile: Toga o Seoumono isn't anything like its predecessors. Tri-Ace eschews side-scrolling action in favor of a tactical RPG where turn-based conflicts are fitted between interactive sequences which move the story along. Wylfred starts the adventure with his friend Ancel and they're joined later by another kindred spirit named Ailyth.

Preorders are welcome for a new Valkyrie Profile which ships on the Nintendo DS later this year. Square Enix's Valkyrie sculpture was originally scheduled to ship in November of last year. Then it got delayed to a future date. Japanese vendors re-opened preorders for the item last night with a new ship date of mid-late May 2008.

Valkyrie Profile Silmeria Wall Scroll

A couple of weeks ago, a vendor in Hong Kong approached us with an offer for about 100 Valkyrie Profile Silmeria wall scrolls at a nominal cost. The shipping cost would be considerable due to the weight and size of the scrolls and we sat on the offer for a few days. After some more prodding and goading, the vendor convinced us to buy and ship them into the States.

After a delay going through U.S. Customs last week, we finally received the shipment this morning. Each Valkyrie Profile Silmeria wall scroll measures 40 x 27.50" and covers a wall well with the images of Alicia on the left and Silmeria on the right. Note that the scrolls are new but since they were rolled into tubes by the shipper, the paper is slightly ruffled. They can be smoothed out by rolling the scrolls in the opposite direction and storing them like that. Please note also that the ends of the scroll bars feature end caps which may have dug into the paper, causing small nicks in the scroll.

Pricing is set at US$19.00 per wall scroll which includes USPS Media Mail shipping anywhere in the contiguous USA. USPS Media Mail normally delivers in 5-20 days depending on your proximity to our location in New York City. Orders are welcome.

A supplier in Hong Kong has offered about 100 Valkyrie Profile Silmeria wall scrolls to us for a nominal cost. We're fairly certain that they were a promotional item that was given away by Square Enix but the shipping cost will be onerous. We'll update again if we decide to bring them in.
