«©NCSX» The Jolly Roger is an ominous symbol that's recognized by seamen and pirates who sail the high seas. The latter group is usually on the water with the sole intent of robbing folks of their loot. In modern land society, the skull and crossbones symbol isn't really found anywhere except on packs of vermin bait and bottles of poison. It is an oddity then that Cospa has announced new preorders for eating utensils which are topped by the Jolly Roger - a fork and a spoon that are accompanied by a symbol of poison. If NCS was to consult our feng-shui master for his advice, we're fairly certain he'd look at the utensils for about 3 seconds and then shake his head in disdain. Sharp objects, decay, and corpselike imagery are generally taboo in feng-shui.

With that in mind, NCS opens up preorders for the One Piece Spoon & Fork Set from Cospa which are made of stainless steel. Each utensil measures 17cm or 6.69" in length. Reservations are welcome to ship in mid-late May 2010 at JPY1200 or US$15.90 from NCS.

«©NCSX» The worlds envisioned by Leiji Matsumoto in his Galaxy Expresss 999 and Captain Harlock properties have taken readers and viewers on sweeping adventures that spanned the cosmos. Ever see a non-aerodynamic old school locomotive trailed by box cars thrusting through outer space? That's Leiji's vision at work in Galaxy Express where he chronicled the adventures of Maetel and a lad named Tetsuro as they visited different worlds and encountered various personalities and drama.

Leiji hit his 72nd birthday earlier this year (January 25) but he's still an active creator and one of his latest creations is the result of a collaboration with watch designer Seahope. The Leiji Matsumoto Romantic Collection Watch sort of looks like a nautical device that might be used by offworld submariners to locate sunken loot. Or something like that. The face of the LED watch features a hodgepodge of lines, a dial, and a gauge which may seem indistinct and muddled at first glance. However, if you look at the perimeter of the face, you'll see quadrants have been demarcated with lines along with more minute lines which delineate the seconds. If that sounds confusing, wait until you see a Movado watch. They don't even have numbers. Two smaller gauges may be found below the face.

The body of the watch is constructed of a scratch-resistant aluminum alloy and is available in either Silver or Gunmetal. Every watch is serially numbered on the back plating which is also etched with the visage of the Jolly Roger. All preorders have shipped; new orders welcome. «Photos»

In the case of the Straw Hat Pirates led by Luffy, their version of the Jolly Roger wears a straw hat and a toothy grin. The crossbones are positioned in a perfect "X" perhaps to signify danger and cause alarm. Cospa has started preorders for a One Piece Jolly Roger 100% Cotton Towel which may be flown like a flag in gale force winds and measures 135 x 68cm in area. «©NCSX» Cospa has announced a One Piece Jolly Roger Fork and Spoon Set which appears to be targeted at consumers who have love for the One Piece animated serial and are hell-bent on supping with pirate-themed utensils. The spoon looks to be wide enough to ladle up cereal, soup, and other watery foodstuffs while the fork's four tines should be sharp enough to spear peppers and sausage, omelets, and maybe even flapjacks if you fold them like a "C" or perhaps a "Z" on your plate.

Cospa doesn't specify what the utensils are made of but we're assuming stainless steel which won't react with acidic tomato sauce or the vinaigrette in a zesty salad. Each utensil measures 17 cm or 6.69" in length and is topped by a toothy Jolly Roger wearing a hat. Preorders are welcome to ship in mid-late January 2010 at JPY1200 or US$18.90 from NCS.
