NCS Preorder Synopsis
«©NCSX» The Chi's Sweet Home plushes that arrived last month sold like cheezeburgers with a side of fries. Japanese manufacturer Omron follows up their Chi's plush success with another trio of Chi's toys that are shipping in December.
In the new collection, Chi is hugging a banana but no one knows why. NCS is aware that the banana is a flavorful fruit that is enjoyed by millions but embracing a banana is taking the love to another level. Each Chi plush measures 10cm or 3.93" tall and three variants are available - the first Chi has wide-open eyes and is grabbing onto a pastel-blue banana while the second chi is squinty-eyed and holds a natural yellow-colored banana. The final Chi is wide-eyed and hangs onto a pink banana. Preorders are welcome to ship in mid-late December 2010 at US$16.90 per plush.
American citizens have a favorite fruit over all others. It's not the apple nor the orange as one might suspect. It's the banana and the average American gobbles up 28 lbs of of the yellow fruit per annum. Maybe it's the delicious flavor or the fact that bananas mesh with ice cream that keeps it at the top of the charts.
Bananas are also a favorite in Japan and pretty much everywhere else in the world. Tangent time: humans have a tendency to humanize objects, animals, and other living things. For example, a distinctive rock might be said to possess human-like "facial" features and Woofy the 10 year old dog might be described as being like gramps - slobbery and occasionally incontinent.
Add one more human attribution victim to the list - Elite Banana which is a sentient piece of fruit with anthropomorphic facial features who enjoys the good life. Elite Banana products sell well in Japan but are unknown in pretty much the rest of the world. NCS stocked the Elite Banana Motion Plush last week and today, we import the Elite Banana Air Bubble Keychain which features a banana encased inside a plastic air bubble. Doodle simple facial features on a banana and you have Elite Banana, a recent toy franchise that's making the rounds in Japan. Banpresto's Elite Banana Plush toy sits on a red couch and holds a drink that may be cognac.
The Elite Banana plush takes two AA batteries (not included) and contains a sound activated mechanism inside. Clap your hands or yell out, "El gato es en la cocina!" and Elite Banana will rock back and forth on its couch in a slow, deliberate and somewhat disturbing fashion for about 16 seconds.
