Gruff, surly, and overly serious, Snake usually has a cigarette pursed between his lips. We think he's smoking a Marlboro but there's no way in hell it's a Pall Mall. Snake's dark garb is conducive to stealth and sneaky tactics when he does those things that he does.

    Medicom's latest rendition of Snake (well, Big Boss really... but they're clones anyway) for their renowned Real Action Heroes figure series takes inspiration from Metal Gear Solid 3 and puts our favorite special ops wunderkind in a decidedly flamboyant outfit. The bright orange utilitarian uniform that Snake's wearing basically screams "Look at me!" at the top of its lungs and the yellow hammer and sickle etched across the front connotes cold war Mother Russia.
 
    The new RAH Naked Snake figure measures 30cm or 11.81" tall and is equipped with the usual accoutrements needed for a special ops mission. Please note the figure is limited to only 1000 units.

 Unpacking Snake
    Upon opening up the cardboard enclosure that holds Naked Snake, fans will lift out a plastic retainer that keeps the toy secure. Snake's snugly sandwiched between two plastic trays and he's accompanied by three extra hands and a SA 1911A1 Operator firearm with a suppressor attached to the barrel.
 
    Snake's outfitted in his orange outfit and he's strapped with the usual Metal Gear Solid RAH accoutrements which hold the gear he needs to get the job done. A CQC (Close Quarters Combat) knife situated inside a holder is wrapped around Snake's right leg and may be gripped by Snake's hands. The Real Action Heroes series is impeccable like that.

«©NCSX» The festivities for Street Fighter's 15th Anniversary and Rockman's own 15th concluded last year but the two franchises are called to arms upon once again with Bandai's Capcom All Stars Collection of miniature gashapon. Measuring a mere 1.5" each, the characters featured in the collection include notables such as Ryu, Dhalsim, and Hinata from Street Fighter, Hayate from Star Gladiator, and Rockman. Most of the figures do not require any assembly and ship fully formed and molded. The exception is Ryu who stands a little taller than the others and requires plugging the top portion into the bottom. A pedestal is included with each figure for mounting purposes. 

 

   The paint job for each figure is acceptable and for the most part, clean. There are minor paint misses on some of the characters (Hinata's gloves are chipped, for example) but overall, the colors were applied well. While the Capcom All Stars Collection was dispersed randomly in plastic bags, NCS has assembled the figures into complete sets of 10 characters. Please note that there are two color variants of each color but we will include one of either color of each character in the set.

Her weapons named Hourin and Ousai lay flat to her side and are incapable of spilling any blood. Iroha is becalmed and perhaps even reflective as she sits on the ground and looks to the left. She also shucks off her slippers so that her bandaged feet are exposed to the air. If one examines Iroha's fingernails and toenails, they're painted a pretty crimson color.

«©NCSX»  In the original DeathSmiles, the heroines Windia, Caspar, Rosa, and Follet were teenagers who were accompanied by invincible familiars. In the sequel, the girls have devolved and they're no longer teens. They're now "tweens" which accentuates the lolita-gothic theme of the game with a younger-looking cast of immaculately garbed and coiffed junior maidens.

   Similar to the first DeathSmiles, the sequel is a horizontal shooter where players fire shots to the right, fire shots to the left, and drop the occasional bomb blast. In the coin-op version, DeathSmiles II featured a cast of four characters with Windia and Caspar returning to reprise their roles. They're joined by a lad named Lei with an identity crisis. Although Lei's a male, he nevertheless dresses up like a maid and appears to be wearing eyeliner. The fourth character is a youngling named Supe (Soupy) who looks like a baby munchkin just emerging from her swaddling clothes. The Xbox 360 conversion improves on the coin-op original by adding Rosa and Follet as playable characters. The 360 game also includes two new stages for a total of 7 to plow through and attendant bosses who guard the new stages. DeathSmiles 2 is designed with 3D in mind so the stages, enemies, and bosses are rendered 3D models which may be off-putting to some 2D shmup purists. We like the game just fine however - picked up a used kit for about US$1500. Preorders for the Regular Edition (US$73.90) and the Limited Edition which includes a bonus soundtrack and slipcase (US$119.90) are shipping today.
