Hearken back to 19th century Japan when Phoenix Wright's forebear, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, plied his trade in the courtrooms of Meiji-era Japan. In addition to legal sparring in Japan, Naruhodo and his assistant Susato Mikotoba also travel to England to collaborate on cases with Sherlock Holmes. The game features five chapters as follows:

The first printing of the game includes DLC for Randst Magazine Special Edition which is free if downloaded between July 9 to July 19, 2015. Future issues of the magazine will cost JPY300 each.
The Special Edition of Dai Gyakuten Saiban includes the following extra items:
