In the game, players reprise the role of NYPD police detective Aya Brea who's faced with a new threat on the sanctity of Manhattan. Creatures called the "Twisted" have invaded and Aya and a newly formed investigative team dubbed the "CTI" are on the case to stem the threat. Square Enix has mentioned an "Overdive" system in the game where Aya can enter the body of a CTI member and go through the game within that member's skin.
