«©NCSX» The Gamecube version of Mario Tennis GC was released in late 2004 where it won adulation for its peppy controls and overall entertainment value. Nintendo has already re-released two Gamecube titles on the Wii - Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and Pikmin - which were worthwhile upgrades so the re-release of Mario Tennis GC is a welcome addition to the Wii software library.
Upon starting the game, patient players who can sit through lengthy introductory movies can watch a 5 minute CG animation where Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and others clown around on the tennis court. It's the same as the Gamecube movie but we think it looks somewhat sharper although we didn't do a side-by-side comparison. Game modes include Exhibition, Tournament, and Special Games which are mini-games. The nunchuk is used for player movement while the Wii Remote is swung to mimic the actual swing of a tennis racket. After playing a few games this morning, our collective wrists are admittedly achy due to the amount of swinging that a few tennis games requires. The player roster at the outset consists of 14 characters including Mario, Peach, Koopa Trooper, and Boo. Each character possesses a special swing attacks which allows him/her to gain an advantage when batting the ball back at the opponent.
