Bomberman Bakuhatsu Plush

The Japanese word "Bakuhatsu" means "Explode" and that's what Bomberman's bombs do. To capitalize on the decades old Bomberman craze, Banpresto unleashes a plush bomb which sports a lit fuse on top and a sound emitting mechanism inside. When the sound device is smacked and triggered by pounding on the Bomberman plush, two sounds roar forth from the innards of the toy which are meant to recreate explosive video game aurals from yesteryear.

In the original manufacturer product solicitation from late 2006, the flyer mentions that each plush makes two sounds: "BOOMB!" and "POM!" which are lovingly sampled from the Bomberman games. We listened to the sound effects and the first one sounds like the effect when Bomberman drops a bomb in the maze. The second effect sounds like a burning fuse which leads to a rocking explosion. Two color variants are on offer and all preorders have shipped as of yesterday. New orders are welcome.

Jack Bauer Kubrick & 24 Bearbrick

Medicom lauded the 24 television series with a Real Action Heroes figure earlier this year and the adulation continues this month with a pair of figures which pay homage to Jack Bauer's escapades. The two toys included in the Jack Bauer Kubrick & 24 Bearbrick package are:

Kururin Doughnuts: Okashi Recipe

Most folks aren't aware of the fact that there's a world where the populace consists of sentient sweets and living donuts that roll. Life is good until a thieving cookie bear steals the Rainbow Candy and the donut hero is sent to recover the treasure. By using the stylus to make circular motions on the touch screen, the donut rolls along like a stone and charges through platform levels. Three toppings are available which give the donut new powers: Chopped nuts which gives it the ability to smash through walls, Chocolate glaze which boosts its speed, and Jelly which makes it sticky.
In addition to the action-packed game, a collection of simple pastry recipes and preparation instructions may be unlocked. There's also a photo sequence which shows a bear-shaped cookie being made. «more»

Treasure Gaust: Gaust Diver Crimson Red

Originally released as a dedicated handheld game in October 2005, Treasure Gaust makes its way onto the more capable confines of the Nintendo DS. In the game, players search a town for monsters known as "Gaust" which look similar to Pokemon or Digimon. The Gaust can be found in apartment buildings, shopping districts, and other places that one wouldn't expect a monster to be lurking. The search mechanism is a sonar with a counterclockwise sweeping arm which scans the local area and alerts the player when a monster is near. Like other monster collecting games, the Gaust may be leveled up into new and stronger forms. Unlike Pokemon or Digimon however, the battles are full-fledged action games where movement and projectile attacks are fired off in realtime. «more»

Chibi Robo: Park Patrol

A new park is being built and a Chibi Robo has been commissioned to toil as a gardener, groundskeeper, and guardian. At the outset of the game, a delivery truck deposits Chibi Robo's headquarters directly in the park which serves as the base of operations. Two tools are used to help the 10cm robot achieve its goals: A spraying mechanism which shoots out water and a boombox with built-in turntable which plays gracious melodies. Once Chibi Robo is under player control, move it next to the first flower on the field and play some music. Roll the stylus around in a circular motion on the virtual turntable properly and the flower will eject seedlings onto the field. Water the seedlings and watch them grow instantly into flowers which may also propagate their own seedlings... «more»

Dokidoki Majo Shinpan

Way back in 1692, there was a mania that spread across Salem Village, MA which is now known as the Salem Witch Trials. In that episode of questionable intentions and widespread hysteria, hundreds of women and men were accused of practicing witchcraft. Nineteen of the accused were sent to Gallows Hill for hanging. The populace engaged in "witch hunts" where a mere accusation was grounds for imprisonment.

Dokidoki Majo Shinpan is sort of like that. Instead of a fevered mob of villagers with lit torches, the player acts alone and checks for witches by examining a target's body with the stylus or perhaps a finger. You're looking for a mark which may be on her shoulder, the back of her thigh, or another region that only a stylus-wielding sleuth can ferret out. «more»

Puchi Puchi Virus

An off-world virus has invaded Earth and is mutating humans into adorable monsters. A scientist named Kevin Noguchi discovers a cure that he calls the Virus-Buster but each patient must be treated individually due to the nature of the virus. To help the hapless, the scientist and his assistants Honey-Bee and Josh take it upon themselves to cure everyone of their ails by way of triangle-creating antics.

Each infected patient's body is a battleground where blobs that represent the virus are arranged on a grid made up of 10x10 hexagons. To destroy the viruses in groups of three, tap on each like-colored virus to encapsulate and wipe them from the screen. Chain combos can be created by intersecting two triangle groups of viruses and tapping once. «more»
