Back in October of 1938, a radio broadcast titled, "The War of the Worlds" as narrated by Orson Welles sent a portion of the American populace into a panic. People listening to the program thought that a real Martian invasion was in progress and ran for the hills. Others hid underneath their beds and waited for Armageddon to arrive.
By morning, all was well because... it was just a radio drama. The episode however demonstrated that perception is stronger (stranger?) than reality. Taito has been busy with Space Invaders this year but they're branching out on the theme. For their UFO-One Light product, the company meddles with another sort of invasion - actual UFO toys that fly in the sky and feature banded lights. A pair of rotary-blades on top of the toy provides the lift to take to the air and control is handled through a handheld remote control. NCS started preorders for a similar UFO toy earlier this year and we're thinking that we can start a perceived invasion if we launch enough of these toys in downtown Manhattan. Preorders ship in November 2008.
