«©NCSX» Bugs creep and crawl through the expanse of the outdoors like they owned it. And they do. In Taito's Insect Story, players take on the role of a young boy who explores his town and captures insects which are everywhere. After collecting a number of creepies, it's possible to pit them against opposing bugs in a card fighting game. A battle can consist of up to 4 insects on your team vs a squad of enemy bugs where the strongest wins. After fighting insects, defeated bugs are added to the player's database where they may be viewed later in a gallery. A wireless function in the game is used for trading bug data with friends and a circle of insect collectors may share each other's data to build up respective databases.

«©NCSX» Prequels are a theme this week. Atelier Lilie goes back in time and the hero Yuterald of the original Evergrace does the same. Faced with the death of his family and destruction of his village by the hand of a villain named Morea, Yuterald ventures forth to seek vengeance. He's accompanied by a friend named Ryanna along with Fillna, a mysterious young woman with a veiled past. Together, the trio collaborate and go on an adventure to exact revenge on an evil empire and to help Fillna discover hidden memories.

   During their travels, an assortment of weaponry and gear may be found or appropriated which helps the heroes advance their physical and metaphysical skills. The magical system adjunct dubbed Palmyra Action helps you strike with mega attacks but this is only available to you upon locating Palmyra crystals to boost your weapons or armor. The fighting and battle sequences during a monster mash are impressive, with Yuterald or Ryanna charging and striking with the quickness. Spells also erupt on the battlefield to mighty crescendo, lacing creatures with pyrotechnics or rippling the ground around beasts with dramatic effects.

 

   Visually impressive, NCS was wowed this morning when this game piped itself through an XRGB-2 to our monitor. Environment graphics are beautiful, special effects shine, and luminescent magical spells are sparkling jewelry. Evergrace 2 is a pretty game which plays in a decent way from what we've been able to view so far.

«©NCSX» Miles Edgeworth comes into his own in Capcom's Gyakuten Kenji where the gray-haired legal eagle takes up the position of lead prosecutor. Resplendent in his crazy eccentric purple outfit, Miles looks the part of an old school court dandy but he's dead serious about the law. By using wits, his legal know-how, and a confrontational attitude, Miles gets to the bottom of four cases featured in the latest Gyakuten game.

   The first episode is titled "Turnabout Visitor" where a deceased police detective named Shinji Nakamado is discovered by Miles in his office. Soon afterwards, police investigators and Dick Gumshoe are on the scene but Gumshoe is accused of the crime by a prosecutor named Makoto Yuki. It's up to Miles to help his friend by finding the truth and setting Dick free. Miles' job is to investigate crime scenes, gather clues, and present a rock-solid case.

   The beetle hobby is strong in Japan with certain specimens fetching hundreds of thousands of yen to procure them from breeders. At a slightly lower cost, Japanese manufacturer Yell produces a quartet of beetles which won't set you back a month's salary. The four PVC specimens are:

   Each beetle requires snap-lock assembly but once constructed, you'll have a rascal with 10 points of articulation for posing and posturing. The length of each beetles measures slightly over 5" in total.
