Whereas Bub and Bob used their legs to move around in the original Rainbow Islands, they're now encapsulated in bubbles which float around the screen. Drag them with the stylus to and fro to confront foes. Utilizing the Nintendo DS stylus, standard rainbow arches may be drawn and then dropped onto beasts while circular rainbows may be scribbled to capture enemies and dispatch them. A triangle-shaped doodle creates a temporary vortex which vacuums up foes in the local vicinity. The supply of rainbow drawing power is limited by a meter which prevents haphazard use of rainbow attacks. Bub and Bob battle little beasts as well as end level bosses across seven islands which feature four stages each within them.

«©NCSX» Relive the events in the Gundam Universal Century timeline which chronicle the aggression of the Axis (Neo-Zeon) as they wage war against the Earth Federation and the AEUG. Continuing the strategic campaigns that kicked off in the earlier Axis no Kyouigame on the PSP, players choose a side from various factions including the Anti Earth United Government, Earth Federation, or the Axis. The chapters covered in the game cover the events in Char's Counterattack (Second Zeon War) to Hathaway's Flash which take place over a decade after the war. The game features tactical-strategy action where mech forces battle opposing forces on terra and across the reaches of space in a turn-based war game. Between battles, interactive scenarios move the story along and allow players to make choices that affect the course of the game and potentially change Gundam history entirely.

   Previous Gundam Giren tactical simulations have invariably been highly challenging so Bandai gives casual gamers a fighting chance by including a special Very Easy Mode. Mech handlers in the game are equipped with their best robots early in the game so that their attacks are more formidable and do a lot more damage to the enemy.

   KESSEN III is the first sequel to the series in almost four years and will be notable for several sweeping changes to the widely respected franchise. The series' Crowd Engine that was used in the original Kessen has been completely rebuilt to deliver the most exciting battle scenes and action-oriented gameplay in the series- all in full 3D. Unlike any of the previous Kessen games in the series, players will have direct real-time control of troop movements, offensives, and defensive maneuvers. Moreover, allied units can join the player-controlled unit to create combination attacks.

   KESSEN III now features non-linear stage selection, an officer and troop development system, and a process that allows players to equip officers with over 450 weapons, helmets, and samurai armor. The game's deep and compelling narrative will unfold throughout 120 combined minutes of movie sequences, accompanied by a stirring musical score from legendary composer Reijiro Koroku.

The new sequel also marks the franchise's return to Japanese history and aesthetics. It is the middle of the turbulent Sengoku or "warring states" period. «©NCSX» Set squarely in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms (A.D. 220-280) world, the second Kessen focuses on the war between Liu Bei, founder of the Shu kingdom and Cao Cao, who leads the Wei empire. They're both on the game cover, along with the bewitching Diao Chan who is cast in the screenplay as Liu Bei's lover in this game. Scholars of the ROTK narrative may be offended by this relationship, which taints the ROTK tale, but they ain't seen nothin' yet.

 

   Similar to the first Kessen, armies of soldiers led by generals clash on battlefields to decide supremacy of one side over the other. Koei warps into a distorted fantasy version of "Romance" by introducing caricatures of generals who bear the names of historical figures but are empowered with elemental force. The great statesman and military strategist Zhuge Liang, for example, wields magical powers and uses them in campaigns against Cao Cao's forces. Liang was also known as "Hidden Dragon". The use of supernatural attacks tilt the tide of battle since legions of armies may be taken out by the summoning of a twister.

 

   Historical inaccuracies and hyper-physical manifestations aside, Kessen 2 reacts to a changing landscape by adding over the top visuals, massive "clear the field" attacks, and some semblance to a classic Chinese novel to spice up the tactical strategy genre.
